The World's End (2013) Movie Review

Gary King is the big man on campus and when school is out for summer, he and his friends take a jab at the infamous golden mile. 60 pints, 12 pubs, one crazy night. They only make it to pub 9. 23 years later Gary is getting all the lads back together for another attempt at the golden mile. Unfortunately, his old town has been taken over by a mysterious group of blue-blooded… things. We have ourselves a movie.

Something that is pretty interesting about this movie is that it was filmed in a town right next to the one where I live. It was really eerie to see loads of places in the movie that I recognise. You can actually see the town’s cinema that I find pretty funny; seeing the building that you are in in a film.

Anyway, this is the most British movie that I have seen maybe since Hot Fuzz. There is an intense level of things that only a British person would understand like a lot of references to pubs and the like. The movie’s dialogue is its strongest point. It is always hilarious and it flows like a waterfall of WD40. Even when the tone is serious, Simon Pegg somehow pulls a punch line out of nowhere with his fantastic delivery and dialogue.

Not only is this movie a comedy (although its primary focus is definitely on being funny) its action sequences are really exciting. This is reinforced by the way that the entire movie is edited. The fluidity of the cuts and transitions makes it tense throughout. Especially the first fight scene in the toilets was just brilliant.

This quintessentially British movie is relentlessly hilarious and still is shockingly action packed. It is also filled with celebrities like Piers Brosnan… that guy was James Bond! The entertainment never stops and neither does your interest. I give ‘The World’s End’ a 8/10 - Hilarious
