This movie basically confirms what everyone already knew
about Tom Hanks… he’s really good at the old acting thing. I really enjoyed
this movie. It was absolutely fantastic… so yeah!
Captain Phillips tells the true story of a cargo ship that was boarded by hostile Somali pirates. Tom Hanks is pretty much the bee’s knees in this movie. At the end of the movie, my heart was in my hand and then I dabbed my eyes with it because of the intense emotion. Seriously though, the last scene is the closest I have ever come to crying during a movie… And I’ve seen Space Jam, the emotional rollercoaster of the generation. It was actually really interesting to find some of the Bourne Series’ classic percussion music in the moments of great intensity. It sounds like someone is just off camera going ham on the bongos. I recognised the directorial similarities to the Bourne Series without even knowing Paul Greengrass directed it.
The one bad thing about this movie is that you’ll find yourself yelling at the screen when the characters don’t take advantage of the moments where they could clearly turn the situation around. Even this just makes the movie far more tense and suspenseful, as you can never really tell what characters are going to do. I was honestly just trying to find something to complain about with the movie.
Captain Phillips is a movie that takes emotions and violently shoves it in your face and shakes it around a bit. Every moment is tense and it is paced remarkably well. The utilisation of bongos was probably the best I saw last year and I found it rather difficult to find something to complain about. I think you would be a fool not to watch this movie.
